What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating beyond what is necessary for the body to regulate its temperature. It can occur in various parts of the body, such as the underarms, hands, feet, and face, and can significantly impact an individual's daily life and self-esteem.
How is hyperhidrosis treated at Sculpt?
This treatment involves tiny injections of botulinum toxin (commonly known as “anti-wrinkle”) into the skin of the affected area. Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks nerve signals in the sweat glands that stimulate sweat production, and dramatically reduces sweating in the area treated.
What areas of the body can be treated with botulinum toxin for hyperhidrosis?
Most commonly, botulinum toxin injections are used to treat hyperhidrosis in the underarms but can also be used to treat the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and the face.
How long does the botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis last?
The effects of botulinum toxin treatment typically last between 4 and 6 months. After this period, the treatment will gradually wear off, and sweat gland activity will return to normal.
How long does it take to see results after receiving botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis?
Most individuals begin to notice a reduction in sweating within a few days to a week after the treatment, with full effect at 2-3 weeks.
Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis?
Common side effects include injection site pain and bruising. Serious complications are rare but can include infection, allergic reactions, and unintended muscle weakness.
